 Nutrition & Fitness

Looking after our bodies should be the number one thing you do in life. Without proper health, fitness and nutrition, everything else begins to suffer. Things begin to fail, we become lethargic, we gain weight, and over time we become more and more complacent with our health and lifestyle. We have someone who can help!
The importance of nutrition in a nutshell...
Good nutrition means eating and drinking balanced foods so that your body can absorb and utilize all of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals to the best of it's ability to make sure it can work to its full capacity.


In today's hustle and bustle, it is very tempting to grab something fast, on the go, as you are on your way to your child's hockey practice, to the movies, the seminar, or the date night you had planned for weeks and finally get to go on! In general, we have a tendency to look at food mindlessly, as a filler or for fun, rather than examining or planning what we put into our bodies in a more mindful and healthful way. This often leads to pounds added on, and cholesterol building up, which in turn (in combination with many other things) can result in the making for health crisis situations. 

There are many benefits of good nutrition, such as: 
  • Reducing the risk of some diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, stroke, some cancers, and osteoporosis
  • Reducing high blood pressure
  • Lowering high cholesterol
  • Improving your well-being
  • Improving your ability to fight off illness
  • Improving your ability to recover from illness or injury
  • Increasing your energy level
Being fit is about more than just looking good... 
Knowing you need fitness in your life is common sense, but here are the major key points as to why you want a regular fitness regime, as summarized in this very good article:
  • The more fit you are, the less likely you are to end up needing expensive medical interventions, saving you money in the long or short term.
  • Research suggests that people who are more active tend to be healthier and tend to live longer, with less complications over time.
  • Regular exercise and physical activity increase muscle strength, bone density, flexibility, and stability.
  • Physical inactivity is associated with an increased risk for certain types of chronic illnesses, cancer, and mental health issues, such as depression. On the other hand, regular physical exercise has been shown to improve mood and mental health, and provides numerous physical benefits.
  • Being active means that it’s easier to stay active as you get older. The more active you are, the more you are able to do and experience new activities, such as a hike in the mountains or a day at the zoo.
  • Regular exercise and physical activity promotes strong muscles and bones, improves respiratory, cardiovascular health, and overall health.
  • Staying active can help you maintain a healthy BMI and weight, which in turn can greatly reduce your risks for cancers, diabetes, and heart health conditions.

​These are just a few of the major benefits of being and staying physically fit. You owe it to yourself to look into a regular fitness routine that you love, and eating a well balanced, nutritious diet.

All of our practitioners run their own hours. The IHMWCenter is only open when there are events or appointments scheduled. You are welcome to drop in for any events or appointments, or if you have made prior arrangements to meet a practitioner there.
